Registration information

Recreation Excellence client account is required for:

  • Memberships
  • Registered programs
  • Rentals
  • Recreation Excellence wallet

A registered program will:

  • Have a predetermined age, activity and/or skill level
  • Have a predetermined session date, time, and location
  • Require participants to register before the start of the class
  • Require payment in full to confirm registration
  • Not have make up dates or added additional dates for missed sessions

Registration day

Some registered programs fill up quickly, to avoid disappointment, consider these tips:

  • Make note of the posted registration day (date when the program registration opens)
  • Registration opens at 9am CST on the posted date for each season
  • Sign up for the notifications on the APP to receive reminders and never miss a registration date (coming soon)
  • Registered program spots are limited and are filled on a first come, first served basis

Registrations can be made in-person, by email, or by phone. All registrations are first come first served. No method takes precedence over the other:

    • Please have the following on hand
      • Participants health care number
      • Participants First Nations Status card if applicable

    • Then call or stop in to provide payment to complete the registration
    • Payment can be made through e-transfer to twc@recreationexcellence.com
      • Include what the payment is for in the memo section

Withdrawals and refunds 

Withdrawals and refunds can be processed when a participant requests to be removed from a registered program with more than 5 business days (Monday – Friday) prior to the lesson start date:

  • A 10% withdrawal fee may be applied
  • The remaining balance may be processed to your Recreation Excellence client account, or a refund may be requested (Amounts less than $5.00 will remain on the Recreation Excellence client account)
  • Withdrawals requested less than 5 business days (Monday – Friday) prior to the lesson start date will not be refunded

Withdrawals and refunds can be processed when a participant requests to be removed from a registered program due to injury or medical condition prior to the lesson start date:

  • A physician’s letter may be required within 2 weeks of notification of withdrawal for the refund/credit to be issued
  • The 10% withdrawal fee will not be applied

  • A physician’s letter must be provided within 2 weeks of notification of withdrawal for the refund/credit to be issued
  • The 10% withdrawal fee will not be applied

Transfers

Transfers are processed when a participant request to be moved from one registered program to another registered program with more than 5 business days (Monday – Friday) prior to the lesson start date:

  • Subject to availability
  • Additional program registration fees may apply and are due at the time of the transfer
  • Transfers requested less than 5 business days (Monday – Friday) prior to the lesson start date may not be transferred or refunded

Cancellations 

Recreation Excellence reserves the right to cancel a program for reasons beyond our control.  Recreation Excellence will notify registered program participants via phone and/or email.  (Please ensure that your Recreation Excellence client account information is up to date).  Refunds or account credits will be issued for courses cancelled by Recreation Excellence.   

Facility Use

  • Access to gymnasium
  • Free use of gymnasium sporting equipment
  • Complimentary drop in programming
  • Discounts on all leisure, fitness, sport, and cultural programming

Membership use

  • Thunderchild Band Members must provide proof of residency with Treaty Card
  • All memberships are non-transferrable and cannot be downgraded
  • Youth: 13-17 years old
  • Students 25 and under must provide a valid student ID. Students 25+ must provide proof of current enrollment in a minimum of three courses per semester at a school or post-secondary institute.
  • Family Memberships: Consist of a maximum of two adults over the age of 18 and anyone living in one residence under the age of 18
  • Punch cards are non-refundable, but are transferable. All Punch Cards expire 1 year from purchase date.
  • Terms & conditions applicable in to memberships are subject to change

Monthly memberships: 1 month

  • Nonrefundable
  • Monthly memberships are valid from 30 days from the time of purchase for Continuous Memberships

Continuous memberships: 3 months

  • Continuous memberships can only be cancelled after three (3) full calendar months of membership. The first prorated month of membership is not included in the three (3) calendar months.
  • Cancellation requests received by the 30th/31st of the current month guests wish to cancel, if not received the membership will remain active and a payment will be taken in the following month
  • No refunds are given for any unused portion of the Continuous Membership

Annual memberships: 12 months

  • Annual memberships can be cancelled due to a medical reason or moving out of the area. If cancelling due to a medical reason a medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner is required.
  • Annual memberships are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase

Admission policy

HEALTH

Please do not visit the facility if you are suffering from a flu, bacterial or viral infection, communicable disease, or severe skin condition. Stay at home if you are sick or have diarrhea. Wait 2 weeks after symptoms subside before returning to the facility.

SUPERVISION

Children under 7 years of age must be actively supervised in the space or facility that they are in. The guardian is expected to be in the same space, in the arena, or in the fieldhouse actively supervising and monitoring the children. Maximum 5 children per guardian.

CHANGE ROOMS

Universal, Men’s and Women’s change rooms are available. The Universal change room is an inclusive space for guests with children, those requiring assistance, and people of all gender identities. Children 7 years of age and older are encouraged to use the change room of their gender identity or the Universal change room.

Guests are encouraged to use the designated change rooms and not the common areas for changing before and after a workout, gym, or ice time.

The use of any type of electronic recording equipment, including but not limited to, cell phones, cameras, video recorders, tablets, computers, etc is strictly prohibited in any of the change rooms within the facility.

HARASSMENT

Recreation Excellence does not accept or tolerate bullying and harassment under any circumstances. This policy applies to all Recreation Excellence employees, clients, guests, and contractors.

Recreation Excellence is committed to creating a business environment where respect for the individual is central. We believe that all our employees have the right to be treated with dignity and respect and we will strive to provide a workplace that is free of harassment and bullying. This policy has been developed to reflect the foregoing commitment, prevent improper conduct and behaviour, and encourage best practices to enable a safe and harmonious workplace.

FIRST AID & AED

The AED is located in the front lobby and can be used by anyone when needed. The first aid kit is stored in the Recreation Excellence registration desk. Please notify the Recreation Excellence team for assistance with first aid and emergencies.

BEHAVIOURS

The Thunderchild Wellness Centre is a tobacco, alcohol, drug, and weapon free facility (including but not limited to chew, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vaporizers). Possession of and/or consumption of alcohol, drugs, or weapons are strictly prohibited. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be refused entry and are grounds for immediate removal.

The use of profanity, offensive, or inappropriate language and/or explicit music are not permitted.

Spitting inside the facility is not permitted.

Plastic water bottles are encouraged.Glass water bottles and sunflower seeds are not permitted in the facility. Food and beverages are not permitted on the ice, in the gymnasium, or the fitness centre.

Shooting of pucks, balls, rings, or other objects in the facility common areas or change rooms is not permitted.

Pre-game warm-ups, dryland, or practices are not permitted in the common areas or change rooms. This includes running, jogging, stair climbing, races, tag, or relays.

Distribution or sale of food, beverages, goods, and services require written permission from Recreation Excellence management 7 days prior.

Coaching, instructing, or leading a private or group activity during a public or drop-in leisure session is not permitted. Coaches, instructors, and group leaders require express written approval from Recreation Excellence management at least 7 days prior to arriving at the facility.

TEAMS, GROUPS, CLASSES, LESSONS & CLINICS

Teams, groups and classes can access the assigned change room no more than 30 minutes before and are expected to be out of the change rooms 30 minutes after the scheduled ice time.

The team or group’s designated representative should:

  • Check-in with the registration desk to sign out the change room key.
    • A piece of identification will be required to ensure the key is returned at the end of the session.
    • The Universal change room is an inclusive space for players requiring assistance and people of all gender identities. Please ask for the key to change room 10 and 11 when needed.
  • Check-in with the registration desk to sign out the time clock controller
    • A piece of identification will be required to ensure the controller is returned at the end of the session.
  • Unlock the change room and conduct a change room inspection prior to letting the athletes into the space. Notify the Recreation Excellence customer service representative if problems or concerns are identified.
  • Monitor the players’ behaviours while inside the facility and ensure compliance with all facility rules and sport organizations’ code of conduct
  • Conduct a change room inspection after the last athlete leaves and then lock the change room and return the key. Notify the Recreation Excellence customer service representative when problems or concerns are identified.

Athletes, coaches, leaders, and parents are expected to:

  • Follow all Recreation Excellence rules and regulations
  • Ensure that races, tags, or relays do not occur in the change room or common areas
  • Comply with the sport organization’s code of conduct policies
  • Honour the Respect in Sport Agreement
  • Use the appropriate change room as posted on the display board in the lobby
  • Empty water bottles in the sink
  • Dispose of trash in the nearest garbage receptacle
FOOTWEAR

Arena: Ice – Skates are required on the ice surface (shoes/boots are not permitted on the ice surface).

Arena: Floor – Indoor athletic running shoes with a closed toe and heel, appropriate for the amenity or equipment (work boots, sandals, and flip flops are not permitted).

Fieldhouse – Indoor non-marking athletic running shoes with a closed toe and heel, appropriate for the amenity or equipment (work boots, sandals, and flip flops are not permitted).

ATTIRE 

Arena – Ice: 

  • Skates are required on the ice surface (shoes/boots are not permitted on the ice surface)
  • A CSA approved helmet, with chin strap secured:(Proper alignment move TAB OVER PLEASE)
    • Is required for all skaters under 18 years  
    • Is encouraged for all skaters over 18 years
  • Other equipment as required by the governing sporting association such as mouth guard, neck guard, shoulder pads and chest protector, gloves, pants, jock or jill, and knee pads

Arena – Floor: 

Guests are required to wear appropriate fitness attire that can include:  

  • Clean and dry athletic short, leggings, or sweatpants (undergarments, jeans/jean shorts and swim trunks/suits are not permitted)  
  • Clean and dry athletic top or t-shirt   
  • Indoor athletic running shoe with non-marking sole, closed toe, and heal (work boots, sandals, and flip flops are not permitted)
  • Other as required by the governing sporting association such as mouth guard, neck guard, shoulder pads and chest protector, gloves, pants, jock or jill, and knee pads

Fieldhouse

Guests are required to wear appropriate fitness attire that can include:  

  • Clean and dry athletic short, leggings, or sweatpants (undergarments, jeans/jean shorts and swim trunks/suits are not permitted)  
  • Clean and dry athletic top or t-shirt   
  • Indoor athletic running shoe with non-marking sole, closed toe, and heal (work boots, sandals, and flip flops are not permitted)  
    • Eye protection are required for under 18 years and recommended for 18+, when participating in racquet sports
LOST AND FOUND

Most items found are kept for a maximum of 1 month prior to being donated to a local charity. Personal hygiene items such as undergarments, socks, hairbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, and soap are disposed of and not kept onsite. Valuable items such as watches, rings, necklaces, wallets, glasses, etc are logged and securely stored. All lost and found items must be claimed in person as staff are unable to confirm items over the phone. Recreation Excellence is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen property. Protect your belongings by securing them in a locker or leaving them at home.    

PHOTO AND VIDEO 

Public The use of any type of electronic recording equipment, including but not limited to, cell phones, cameras, video recorders, tablets, computers, etc is strictly prohibited in any of the change rooms within the facility.     

Media Media professionals are required to obtain permission from Recreation Excellence Management prior to accessing the facility or capturing any images or video content.     

ANIMALS

Animals are not permitted on premises unless they are a Certified Guide Dog or Qualified Service Dog. Both Certified Guide Dogs and Qualified Service Dogs that have been trained and tested have the right to access any location where the public is allowed. Please display your Service Dog ID Card to the Recreation Excellence Customer Service Representative to obtain entry. Please note: The guide or service dog is not permitted into the ice surface but can remain nearby for the duration of the handler’s activity and like anyone acting inappropriately, a person may be refused access or asked to leave if they or their guide or service dog is disruptive.  

PUBLIC SKATING ETIQUETTE 
  • Lock your personal belongings in the locker, or leave them at home
  • Wait for the Zamboni doors to be closed and locked before stepping onto the ice
  • Respect all skaters and contact Recreation Excellence staff with any questions or concerns
  • CSA approved helmets and skate aids are available for you to use during your skate. Please remember to return the items to their storage location after your skate.
  • In an effort to reduce the risk of collisions, games like tag, british bulldog, and other horse play are not permitted
  • Sitting on the ice is not advised 
  • The team benches are closed during public skate as well as during parent and tot, and other leisure activities
  • Sticks, balls, and pucks, are not permitted during public skate, parent and tot, and other leisure activities
  • Skates are required on the ice surface (shoes/boots are not permitted on the ice surface)
  • Strollers are not permitted on the ice
  • Children aged 7 and under must be actively supervised in the space or facility that they are in. The guardian is expected to be in the same space, on the ice/arena floor (wearing skates) and in the fieldhouse actively supervising and monitoring the children. Maximum of 5 children per guardian.
DROP-IN SHINNY

Skates are required on the ice surface (shoes/boots are not permitted on the ice surface). 

All participants must wear full hockey equipment and a CSA approved hockey helmet.

Hockey players are welcome.

A maximum of 25 players and 2 goalies (first 2 goalies play free of charge). 

Payments accepted 30 minutes prior to scheduled start time. 

Referees are not provided  – The hockey “laws of the game” and fair play rules apply:

  • Rotate shifts to allow equal ice time for all players
  • No slap shots
  • No body checks
  • No slashing
  • No tripping
  • No foul language
  • No bullying
  • No fighting
  • No formal or organized coaching
DROP-IN FIELDHOUSE ETIQUETTE

The Recreation Excellence team will set up the fieldhouse for the posted sport activity with nets, balls, birdies, bean bags, flags, sticks, paddles, and/or racquets. Wooden and composite sticks and outdoor equipment are not permitted.

Please bring your own knee pads, elbow pads, and eye protection specific to the sport.

Please return all equipment at the end of your gym time.

Payments accepted 30 minutes prior to scheduled start time. 

Referees are not provided  – The “laws of the game” and fair play rules apply:

  • No slap shots
  • No body checks
  • No slashing
  • No tripping
  • No overhand serves
  • No spikes/smashes
  • No foul language
  • No bullying
  • No fighting
  • No formal or organized coaching
MEETING ROOM ETIQUETTE 

The designated representative should:

  • Check-in with the registration desk to sign-out the meeting room key 
    • A piece of identification will be required to ensure the key is returned at the end of the booking
  • Conduct an inspection of the space and notify the Recreation Excellence customer service representative when problems or concerns are identified
  • Ensure compliance with all facility rules and sport organization code of conduct
  • Ensure the meeting room is returned to its original state by:
    • Wiping down tables, chairs, and counter surfaces
    • Stacking the chairs
    • Folding and stacking the tables
    • Remove large debris from the floor
    • Remove all refuse
    • Return all audio/visual equipment to the trolly
  • Conduct an inspection, then lock the meeting room, and return the key. Notify the Recreation Excellence customer service representative when problems or concerns are identified.
EVENT HALL ETIQUETTE 

The designated representative should:

  • Check-in with the registration desk to sign-out the event hall key 
    • A piece of identification will be required to ensure the key is returned at the end of the booking  
  • Conduct an inspection of the space and notify the Recreation Excellence customer service representative when problems or concerns are identified
  • Ensure compliance with all facility rules and sport organization code of conduct
  • Ensure the event hall is returned to its original state by:
    • Wiping down tables, chairs, and counter surfaces
    • Stacking the chairs 
    • Folding and stacking the tables
    • Remove large debris from the floor
    • Remove all refuse
    • Return all audio/visual equipment to the trolly
  • Conduct an inspection, then lock the meeting room, and return the key. Notify the Recreation Excellence customer service representative when problems or concerns are identified.
